CHOTT EL DJERID

From the centre of this sprawling salt lake which dominates the heart of Tunisia one sees brilliant white plains in every direction, occasional mirages and scattered evidence of mining.

No plants live here, but somehow the ants survive, and the shallow water is absolutely teeming with ..... things.

THE SAHARA DESERT

Dry, arid and featureless, Phespirit stands alone in the shimmering, majestic Sahara.

CHEBIKA

In sunset serenity, the old, abandoned village of Chebika nestles silently by its fertile gorge.

Out of view, a natural spring gurgles from the mountainside in a splashy waterfall.
Birds, toads and date palms abound.
