Phespirit goes to Portugal
Lisbon February 2007
POINTS OF VIEW
Lisbon is a city built upon hills. This means it has lots of rooftop and miradouro vantage points from which to admire its skylines.
Here Phespirit admires the view from one of the towers of Castelo de São Jorge, on top of the very highest hill of Lisbon.
MOSTEIRO DOS JERÓNIMOS
This exceptional 16th century monastery is the architectural highlight of Lisbon.
The vaulting inside is magnificent, as is the Manueline cloister.
BULL DOG CLIP
Lisbon has a long history of tile-making; its neighbourhoods are brightened by buildings that make extensive use of tiles for exterior and interior decoration.
In the Museu Nacional do Azulejo Phespirit found this panel showing a dog biting into a bull's testicles. An unusual motif.
