Phespirit goes to Azerbaijan

OIL ON WATER

Phespirit witnessed these men catch small silvery fish from the Caspian Sea, and then set them aside - presumably to eat later. It seemed as unlikely as it was unwise, given the bay was rank with oil and raw sewage.

CASPIAN BEACH

Notwithstanding the pollution, there are still facilities for beach lovers to be found by the Caspian Sea, such as these at Sahil.

Five star luxury, it isn't.

MUD VOLCANOES

Qobustan used to be found by the Caspian Sea, but as both land and sea have yielded to terrific subterranean forces, so Qobustan has found itself further inland.

There is still a sea view from the tops of the mud volcanoes, though.
