WHO LET THE DOG OUT?

As Phespirit started out on a two-hour hike from Boaventura to Arco de São Jorge, this little dog latched on to him and stayed with him for the full distance.

At Arco de São Jorge, it just capered about with other dogs for a while and then found a couple of hikers to join for the trip back.

SPLASH DOWN

Levada dos Tornos crosses an aqueduct in front of a slender waterfall midway between Lombo Grande and Camacha.

Chilling water cascades through a large set of rock basins, including this pair here.

Very refreshing.

OUT ON A LIMB

Here is Phespirit standing upon the peak at the end of Ponta de São Lourenço. Beyond are all inaccessible islands.

The final ascent was hard work - his reward for the effort was a fear that he might slip or be blown into the Atlantic at any moment.
