Phespirit goes to Italy

THE GRAND CANAL

This cul-de-sac is the full entent of Trieste's Grand Canal. It is not an unattractive Grand Canal, but Venice has one much grander.

Here is a metaphor for the two cities.

FROM CASTELLO TO MIRAMARE

This is the view north from Castello, across the commercial shipping port of Trieste and around the northern coast of the Adriatic.

Observe the Miramare, the white dot on the horizon, a Hapsburg retreat built in the 19th century for Austrian Archduke Maximilian.

It's now a museum and gardens. Very nice.

FRIULI COUNTRY

This is Phespirit at the Castello of Udine. In the background are Alps of some sort.

Udine is the historical capital of Friuli. Friuli itself forms a major part of the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia - it all seems very complicated. Little wonder Phespirit is frowning here.
