Phespirit goes to Fuerteventura
Jandía September 2009
WAY OUT WEST
There are no tourist hotels anywhere on the southwest coast as the undertow is lethal.
Very few people walk or drive cross-country from the east so when Phespirit discovered this tiny, near-deserted double-sided beach he thought he'd found a piece of paradise.
EASTERN SEABOARD
Between the dwindling developments south of Costa Calma and the first batch of hotels north of Jandía sprawls the vast expanse of Playa de Sotavento.
When the tide retreats it drains the lagoons and leaves behind nothing but golden sand. This is just a small section of it.
THE DEEP SOUTH
Playa del Matorral is another vast expanse of golden sand, separating Morro Jable and Jandía from the sea. Being close to the two towns means it is more crowded, with rows of sunloungers blighting it in places.
Faro del Matorral is the silhouetted sentinel at the southern tip of Fuerteventura.
