EERO JÄRNEFELT (1863-1937)
Eero Järnefelt was born in Viipuri (now Vyborg, Russia) on 8 November 1863. He studied at the drawing school of the Finnish Art Society (1874-1878); at the Academy of Art in St Petersburg under his uncle, Mikhail Klodt (1883-1886); at the Académie Julian in Paris (1886-1891). He embraced plein-air naturalism and won gold medals at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and 1900. In the 1890s he visited Germany and Italy. He was resident at Helsinki University from 1902-1928. He died in Helsinki in 1937.
